New to the Sport - Advice please!

I am due to pick up my new toy on Thursday and will (weather/sea state depending) probably take it out for a few hours to see if I can remember all I was taught many years ago.

Does anyone else use Lee during the week? My employment dictates that I have to work Saturdays, but get a day off during the week, so will probably head out during the week initially to prevent me making a fool of myself!

Is it easy to self Launch/recover at Lee slipway, considering there is a great bar of shingle right across the slip when the tide is low?

Really want to get out on it soonest - like a kid waiting for Christmas to arrive at the moment, a bit immature considering I am 43 in 8 days time!

Any advice is welcome, oh yes, is it worth me joining in with the club, or should I wait until next spring?

 

If your intending on joining the club, for safety, and buddys ....... then you can post up a thread, for the evenings or days ya fancy a ride out !!

 

As for the slipway ............ again depends what ya ride is ........... a sofa can be a tad difficult, after mother sea has got angry and spewed shingle up the slipway !!

I guess I'm sat on the sofa type then - tried using the stand ups many a year ago and just could not get on with them (one actually nearly cost me my life when I fell off - got the scar on my bonce to prove it!)

Drag Me Round was about the sum of it, although I did manage to get up on my knees a few times!

I've invested in a 2008 Yam VX1100 Sport, had a bit of money from selling my GSXR but wanted to get my fix where there were no speed cameras!

weather permitting their will be a few out on wednesday nite pop down for a chat and we can point out the does and donts, places to visit and hopefully answers some of your question for you.

Probably get there about 6-6.30pm, will have Stand Up & Sit Down.

 

Wednesday club usually has fish and chips down the slipway about 8pm!

 

Even if we don't ski we'll have fish and chips!

Unfortunately, due to the company who were supposed to fit my tow bar failing at their task today, there has had to be an impromptu change of plan. 

After going to the shop and threatening to ram one or the detachable tow balls where the sun doesn't shine because they had been given 2 weeks notice for the fitting, then phoned me up to cancel today, I have had to agree to them coming to my home after work tomorrow night to fit the damn thing (I needed it done by Thursday for collection of the toy!)

Anyway, depending on what time they finish the installment depends on what time I will be free to get down to Lee. If I make it I will come and say hello, if not, it might be a case of getting up early on Sunday to book my car park slot before the hoards get to the beach!

Here's hoping it's tomorrow though, could do with saying hello to a few faces I might recognise at the weekend.

Don't feel too bad about how far away you live though - if I get caught in traffic it can sometimes take me 20 minutes to get to the slip 

Don't worry buddy, it's your time to laugh at me - I methodically went through checking everything through once I got the ski back onto the trailer, took it back to work and used the wash down point - gave her a full valet, tucked her up for the night in the garage... then I remembered the suit and jacket were still in the car, so went to get it out and suddenly it dawned on me - my bloody sand anchor is still sat out near to the end of the slip way, it will by now be fully submerged as the tide is up, so can't go and rescue it!

Thing is, it might well be still down there tomorrow evening, the first chance I will get to go back and check; however if it is, how do I know it isn't someone else's? I don't want to go unwittingly pinching one thinking it's mine!

What a prat!
